no free time is the perfect time to blog

Quickly, which is how I do everything right now, and borrowing this format from a friend:

Item: As of three days from now, I will have been breastfeeding the turtles for one whole year.  I wanted to make that my facebook status today but it seemed too braggy.  But yeah.  I’m psyched about that.  Not that I believe I am anything other than lucky.  In the world of breastfeeding, I am the ttc-equivalent of getting pregnant on my first try, at home, with no drugs.  Lucky.  After having a nightmarish 2 3/4 year ttc odyssey, a miserable pregnancy, a truly shitty birth, and a month in the NICU…it is really nice to be on the lucky end of this particular thing.  To feel like at least ONE thing about this whole biological pregnancy/birth/babyfeeding world came easily for me and for my body.   I know firsthand from reading your stories how hard breastfeeding is for many women, so I try not to take my ease with it for granted, like, ever.

Item: It is a damn good thing that the bfing worked out because like woah…my second postpartum period is a crazy nightmare. (And hence, I’m so happy to have had an 11-month reprieve.)   I’m currently on hour 6 of 1-hour trips to the bathroom to replace my super tampon.  I don’t know why I need to share that particular detail with all or you except that sharing the salacious details of my monthly cycle seems to be in this blog’s DNA.  It’s what I do.  Or at least, what I USED to do, so I wanted to get back to my roots.

Item: There was a third thing.  But then I forgot it.  Doh.

How about a cute story instead?  I taught the Lion how to hold up his index finger.  So now when I say to him: “Lion, how old are you?” he smiles at me and holds up his finger, indicating: “ONE.”  It’s pretty freaking adorable.

    That is really freaking cute!

In the interest of over-sharing to make you feel better, I have had crazy heavy periods since mine resumed (although I didn’t get that nice break you speak of–11 months! Wow!). What is that about anyway?

  3. Gotta love a baby with a cool party trick. I hope a video of the cuteness is coming soon.

  4. There is no way you could brag hard enough about BF’ing twins for a year. That is just damn impressive.
My period has been WACKED since having all of my babies. The nice thing is, cramping used to take me down, not so much now. but the bleeding has now extended itself over a 3 week period. Here’s to hoping this doesn’t happen to you :)

  5. Well congrats on the breast feeding…. that’s awesome

  6. lol, if you could have remembered all three things i would have been impressed! i think motherhood saps too much mental energy to keep such “long” lists in your brain any more! ;)

that is adorable about L’s new trick. how sweet!!

P.S. (Because I completely forgot my original comment), congratulations on a year of BFing. It’s an accomplishment even when it comes easy, and your commitment to it is something to be proud of!

  8. Yay one year! You’re amazing – don’t undersell it. And thanks for bringing us back into your bathroom with you. It’s been too long.

  9. One year is AMAZING!! Well done. Ugh, the period stuff. That sucks. Mine is different too. I get one day like what you describe surrounded by light flow days on either side. But as KJ said, no cramps!

  10. Hats off to you on a year of BFing twins. As others have said, it’s freaking amazing no matter how it came about! I hope AF gets herself under control once her initial revenge for the 11 month break is done. My periods have been way more manageable since E was born buuuuut… no break whatsoever. My first period picked up exactly one month after my PP bleeding stopped, so pick your poison, I guess. :-P

  11. YAY and congrats to you for breastfeeding twins for a whole year! I am utterly impressed.

Also, the Lion sounds tooooo cute. Adorable. =)

  12. WOW! You should be so incredibly proud of yourself. I am thrilled for you that breastfeeding has worked so well. I know how much work you put into it. And you definitely deserved a break after the TTC and birth odyssey you went through. Breastfeeding twins for a year is a major accomplishment whatever the circumstances!

How are they one? Already? That’s crazy.

  13. you rock. even when it’s easy, this BF stuff ain’t easy. BFing twins for a year is super awesome and worthy of being a facebook status.
